Mosquitoes
got you itching? Browse around here for some remedies. We have
reviews of different mosquito traps and an educational resource about
mosquitoes, and what you can do to avoid being bitten.
From their irritating whine to their
sting and itch of their bite, the mosquito
is at the bottom of human kind's list of favorite creatures. As new
information
emerges about the diseases they carry, their growing resistance to
insecticides,
and their increasing numbers, the mosquito, once nothing more than a
summer annoyance,
is capturing headlines worldwide.
Deet
(N, N diethyl-m-toluamide) Deet
has been scientifically proven to provide the best personal protection
against
mosquito bites. Deet is available in variety of concentrations ranging
from 1%
or 2% to 100%, and is applied directly to your clothing or skin. There
is a great
deal of concern however, about the effect of Deet on human health,
specifically
on children. It is recommended that children use a concentration of no
greater
than 10%. It is also recommended to avoid the use of Deet, or products
containing
Deet, directly on your skin, as it is a toxic chemical. Rather, it
should be applied
to your clothing.
Pros:
Deet has been proven the most effective personal use product/repellent
for the prevention
of mosquito bites. It is low cost.
Cons:
There are numerous human health concerns with Deet. It does not reduce
breeding
population in the area. Deet must be applied each time you use your
outdoor living
space.
Here is a list of the many types of mosquito control products. We have
listed the pros and cons of each type.
