Last summer, West Nile Virus sickened more than 4 thousand people.

So this summer, many of us will do anything to get mosquitoes out of our yard...including paying hundreds of dollars for a trapper or zapper.

Linda Zagoda loves gardening... but hates the mosquitos that turn an afternoon of weeding into an evening of misery.

"I always go in and have welts and by the end of summer last year. it reached the point where I had to wear long sleeves and long pants."

So this year, husband Gene decided to take action... and spent 200 dollars on this Coleman Mosquito Deleto.

"I'd heard about these devices, and i thought this is great, i'll buy one of them."

Like other new devices, it burns propane to imitate human breath.

"You turn your fuel on..."

...once on, it's supposed to to lure mosquitos into these sticky traps.

"We have two of these devices with sticky material on them."

These new traps reduce the need to cover up with bug spray, which some reports say can be harmful to young children .

But do these pricey gadgets work? After three weeks, gene has some bad news for us.

-->"How long has this been operating? This has been 3 to 4 weeks. and how many mosquitos do you nave on there? 4 or 5 on each piece. 4 or 5? thats it!"

But that's all we can find on the sticky paper.

They've found more on lindas arms.

-->"I haven't found a significant difference, i'm still getting bit."

A fluke?

--Coleman cites an independent study showing the Mosquito Deleto is effective.

But the online retailer amazon dot com has no excellent reviews of the Mosquito Deleto from buyers.

--Amazon rates it just one star out of five.

--Receiving better reviews, the 200 dollar Flowtron trap, two stars, and the 500 dollar Mosquito Magnet, three out of five stars.

Meantime, Consumer Reports magazine recently conducted a scientific

Consumer Reports says the best models have an electric fan, not sticky paper.

--So Consumer Reports top rating goes to the 500 dollar Mosquito Magnet.... also available in a 300 dollar version.

The Zagodas, though, say they'll stick with bug spray....which is a lot cheaper.
